The big news of late is that I got married! Yes, we had to go up to Vancouver, British Columbia to do so, because the U.S. is unfortunately too backward about these things. We did it on Canada Day (July 1). The official album.

Pam's resume

I valiantly try to achieve the following on a daily basis:

  • Keep my staff happy (or some reasonable facsimile);
  • Help them keep Press computers from self-destructing;
  • Attempt to keep end users from contributing to the above-mentioned problem;
  • Provide reassurance that computers aren't the enemy;
  • Help maintain a Duke Press presence on the Internet;
  • To innovate the infrastructure of the Press, both human and technical

Visit to DC to celebrate Tim's book deal
Kate and I drove up to DC June 5-6, 2004 to meet up with my brother Tim, who finally got a book contract. He's up for tenure this year. we did a quick tour of things and then met Tim at the Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Ave for mimosas and an extravagant buffet! Here's pix (HP site).

New house
It was a real ordeal (I actually didn't keep a diary -- can you believe it -- I should have), but I've finally in...

It snowed here in the south - AGAIN!
At least this is less troublesome than the nearly 2 feet we got a couple of years back.

See pictures from a visit in October 2002. Here are some from April 2001 trip to NYC to visit friends and family. There is also a set of pix from a July 1999 trip. Please also visit my family album, and my pet page.

I finally made it back to the 50th State. I visited the Big Island and Oahu in June. Read the strange but true adventures that always seem to happen when I'm around.

My trip to Hawaii (June 2002)

Bought new car.
I had the '88 Mercury Tracer for 13 years and I sadly bid goodbye to it on 12/27/01. It was my first set of wheels. I now drive a spiffy 2002 Ford Focus ZTW wagon.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt, was my high school English teacher at Stuyvesant High School. To see pix from my 1981 yearbook and from my 10th reunion and my introduction of Frank at a Durham fundraiser in 2000, click here.

The 20th Reunion was on October 13, 2001. My pix are here.

It's hard to think of anything more horrifying than what happened in NYC and DC on September 11, 2001. Most of my mother's side of the family is in NYC. Countless precious lives, along with an historic landmark have been lost. I took this picture of the WTC with my Palm on July 11, 2001, while on a business trip. They weren't the best quality and I almost deleted them at the time. Here are more pix.

Why do I have weird health problems? I don't ever seem to get the cold or flu, just a variety of freakish things happen to me. Read how a simple broken finger turns into complications and 2 surgeries.

My Hand, My Hip: another diary
Part I | Part II

Have you ever experienced a kidney stone? I have. Three times. You don't want to. I actually kept a journal of the last 2 excruciating episodes. Warning: not for the squeamish.

1986 Mets, victorious
(I am a Yankee and Met fan, btw)

Sometimes when I have a really bad day, I remember that it could be a lot worse...

In Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, the Curse of the Babe rose up and Bill Buckner booted a ground ball to first with 2 outs in the 9th and 2 out. The Red Sox lost. Poor Buckner had to endure not only defeat but jokes like this:

Q. What do Bill Buckner and Michael Jackson have in common?
A. They both wear one glove for no apparent reason.
