NC PrideFest 2004
"20 Years of Pride"

October 2, 2004
Durham - Raleigh, NC

The parade was another success! The main tidbit of news is that G-105, which sponsored the lightly attended 1st Annual Straight Pride Parade in Chapel Hill in August was a no-show. There were rumblings that Bob and the Showgram had planned to attend, but alas, he didn't join the queer folk in Durham. I didn't do a head count here, but it's safe to say, when you look at the picture below, that we outdid the 80 that was at the Het parade by a few thousand. There were dozens of booths with merchandise and advocacy organizations there. This was the first year I saw HGTV there, shilling their new programming lineup. Guess they figured we're a good market to target, lol. For the official NC Pride web site, go here.

There was a HUGE amount of voter registration going on, with Kerry/Edwards folks around, as well as supports of local Dem candidates (Erskine Bowles is running for John Edward's seat in the Senate).

The gay pride parade was held at Duke University's East Campus on Main Street. The parade stretched as far as the eye could see, unlike the... ...G-105 Heterosexual Pride Parade pathetic turnout in August. This is all of the people that marched there.
NC Gay Lesbian Film Festival, which is one of the largest in the U.S.  P-FLAG of the Triangle.  P-FLAG families.
A cool P-FLAG Mom Why look! It's Tinkywinky, the queer Teletubbie! Falwell would be proud. Drag queen in killer, painful heels.

This float was from Fayetteville; there were representatives from many cities, as far away as Wilmington (the beach), Greensboro (the central Triad), and Asheville (the mountains)
