The Washington Blade weighs in on the convention. A couple of snippets...
1. Elizabeth Dole. Have to mention our senior senator from NC, since we actually wrote her about FMA and received a response. She got a little coverage. Note how we're addressed as a couple.
Speakers were mostly mum on gay-related issues, despite the GOP’s adopting anti-gay language in its party platform last week.
North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole alluded to the same-sex marriage controversy in her remarks Tuesday night.
“Marriage is important not because it is a convenient invention or the latest reality show,” Dole said. “Marriage is important because it is the cornerstone of civilization, and the foundation of the family. Marriage between a man and a woman isn’t something Republicans invented, but it is something Republicans will defend.”
Thanks, Liddy.
2. The Log Cabin Republicans. This editorial suggests that the LCRs are waiting till NEXT MONTH to decide whether to endorse Bush. Do they need any more time to decide? The self-delusion:
Prominent D.C. gay Republican Carl Schmid has said he was “comforted” by Cheney’s words. Others maintain that while they’ll continue to fight for gay civil rights within the party, they refuse to be defined by their sexual orientation; they choose to be Republicans because of the party’s positions on fiscal matters and defense.
I hope none of them live in VA, because that super DOMA they just passed will allow none of them to even approximate a few legal marriage rights. Dumbasses.
