Headline of the day: "Dave Dreier: Gay and Ashamed"
Love it. Looks like Hustler Magazine has come out with its expose of California Representative Dave Dreier's homosexuality. This GOP hypocrite as a long record of voting anti-gay and apparently his orientation has been well-known in local circles, including the press that covers the district he serves. Raw Story and blogActive have been on the story for months now. Both sites have excerpts of the article.

Actually, Pam, all they've managed to come up with are more "anonymous sources", a supposed conversation with Republicans on a golf course, and breakthrough innuendo on how Drier's apartment was decorated.

I rather expected that, with as long of an investigation as they supposedly did, they might have been able to find things far more tangible than that. You may just have to admit that the reason the mainstream media could care less has more to do with an absence of evidence than any particular suppression of the case. -
Jeff, I have no idea whether this will have any impact at all. If the mainstream media won't directly ask him on camera or tape about his political votes and he has to explain himself (since the local media does know he's gay), nothing much will occur. Obviously no one will be satisfied regarding "proof" unless some rent boy has him on tape. Clinton would have kept on lying if the blue dress hadn't surfaced, so I don't let Dems off the hook, either.

Funny, I let Clinton off the hook until the blue dress surfaced, but that's just me.

As for the "local media" knowing, care to name names? John Byrne and Mike Rogers both share an endearing characteristic -- they can never seem to find anyone to speak on the record, and when they do, it's a psychotic Democratic candidate who sends threatening faxes to people who have their pictures taken with Dreier. -
Jeff... you are a moron... its common knowledge on Capitol Hill that Dreier is gay, and its been common knowledge for a while... I have even heard members of Congress refer to Dreier being gay... the mainstream media aint covering this story because it aint much of a story because it aint much of a secret... these secrets are nothing new on the hill for either party, and they generally don't rise to the level of media story until there is a scandal (a la ed schrock)... i dont condone any of these folks who vote for anti-gay legislation leading secret double lives, i personally think its absolutely reprehensible, but if you think for one damn second that the reason that its not getting covered in the media is because it must not be true than you really have no clue how the hill works...

You know, it's a good thing I oppose outing, RealValues, because otherwise I would be asking how you knew it was "common knowledge" on the Hill that Drier is supposedly gay. I find it amusing when people utilize their connections and positions to bash others for "leading secret double lives", but are afraid to reveal their OWN identities publicly.

However, I shall not ask, since you likely have your reasons for keeping your identity publicly cloaked, as do I, and it is more important to me to respect your privacy than it is to blunt your statements about Drier.
That being said, I have no more reason to believe than I did before that the absence of coverage in the mainstream media indicates a coverup, rather than a lack of evidence.
By the way, I really enjoyed reading your blog, RealValues....you have a great perspective and a wonderfully tart tongue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us out here. -
I agree with Jeff, RealValues, your blog is really entertaining. I appreciate the witty names you come up with for these heinous politicians. I love "Empty Wig" for Liddy Dole.
